“Think Big, think about World Market and make competitive products!
Mr. Ved Prakash Mall, General Manager, India Electronics and Semiconductor Association
ElfOnze continues its endeavor on its Mission ESDM TALK in commemoration of Nation’s 75th Year Independence to connect the industry-Government-Academia and hone India as vibrant ESDM Hub. The Government and industrial bodies with several associations are pushing in their best of efforts to make India self-reliant on all fronts, while electronics design and manufacturing has become the lifeline of many products with the emergence of new technologies, it is time that all stakeholders have to handhold and work with a collective approach to meet the desired goals.
In this version of ESDM TALK, Mr. Ved Prakash Mall, shares an appealing and inspiring excerpt with Saravanam J, COO – ESDM, Elfonze Technologies
The Growth factor of the industry. According to Mr. Ved, amongst the various growth factors in the last decade, the ESDM sector had seen growth and expanded from the Two-wheeler, four-wheeler dashboard, industrial, consumer-appliances, smartphone, defense, transportation, signaling, and LED lighting sectors. About major factors for the growth of ESDM in our country were due to price competitiveness and ability to export. Cheaper components, good EMSI eco system, cheaper and evolved plastic, and metal.
On the Challenges confronting the ESDM players in India: He pointed out that there is Lack of 3D printing and plastic folks for consumer electronics, components are difficult to get, spare imported, components cannot be easily exported back, low local volumes, semiconductor shortage.
Coming to the support required from the Government The support required from Government to make our nation self-reliant in the ESDM is: We should have clusters where the last 20 pc of the finishing happens. From working prototypes to world class products with great packaging and finishing. 3D printing cheaper and scalable needed.
The New Technologies that are trending in manufacturing are 5G, CONNECTED CARS, two wheelers, EV, Green energy, Industrial, Electricity and power control, SMPS are the new technologies that are playing a pivotal role in the manufacturing. There is greater opportunity to focus on these areas.
His thoughts for the Start-ups and new players in the ESDM sector are “Think big, think about world market, and make competitive products” Make for lucrative markets locally and consolidate market share. Don’t look for doles be competitive. Ask for help from government for that scale.
On the Industry-Academia Relationship and Budding Engineers front, which is posing a big challenge, he opines that the industry-academia should strengthen bonding to make our talents Industry-ready. He enhances, Industry should help create hirable talent from second year. They should offer generic courses online which helps reducing training time and more than makes up for the investment. He also advocates that the young budding engineers should keep track of skills of successful engineers and leaders and try getting mentorship early.
“IESA is the premier Industry Body representing the ESDM & Intelligent Electronics industry in India. Through its deep connection with its member companies, IESA aims to grow the ESDM & electronics business segment in India & make India the preferred destination for electronics & semiconductor design & manufacturing. IESA acts as a trusted knowledge partner to the Central & State Governments helping device policies & incentives for the ESDM industry to help attract investments into India. To promote technology solutions to positively impact the lives of 1.3 billion Indian citizens is a key aim for IESA, which it achieves by bridging the gap between academia & industry to bring innovations faster to market.”
